Following his active duty he returned to Texas and worked for the Joseph T. Ryerson Co.
In 1963 he made the major decision to pursue ordination in the Episcopal Church and entered The Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley from which he graduated in 1966 with a Masters in Divinity. While there he met and married Winnie Lehman. Upon graduation they moved first to Houston where he served 2 small missions, St. David’s and Holy Cross, later moving to Freeport on the gulf coast where he was Rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
