Obituary for Donna O'Haire (Horne)

Donna O'Haire (Horne)
Donna (Horne) O’Haire, the beloved Grammy O, 89, of Thornton, NH passed away peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2018.

Born January 6, 1929 in the telephone office in Franconia, New Hampshire, she was the daughter of the late Doris (Moses) and Donald Horne Sr.

Donna grew up in Franconia and graduated from Dow Academy in 1947. She began tending the telephone switchboard at age 11. She was also a baker at the Waterville Valley Base Lodge and owned a family bakery in North Woodstock. Donna and her husband Alfred purchased the Thornton Laundromat in 1986 and retired from operating the business in 2017.

Donna was a proud grandmother and great-grandmother and loved to be surrounded by family. Throughout her life, she enjoyed baking, sewing, playing cards, doing jigsaw puzzles, and visiting with customers of the Laundromat. She was a longtime member of the Thornton United Methodist Church. She was a storyteller and even dictated a book of her short stories in 2016.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Alfred O’Haire Jr.; a son Steve Richards, a daughter Amiee and her husband Jim Goodspeed, a son Beany O’Haire, and a son Peter O’Haire and his wife Shanna, all of Thornton; a brother Deane Horne, of Woodstock; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

Along with her parents, she is predeceased by five siblings: Donald Horne Jr., Dolores (Horne) Sinner, Deveda Horne, David Horne, and Deanna (Horne) MacKay; a daughter-in-law, Carol O’Haire; and two great-grandsons: Trey Strong and Teagan Comeau.

The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and doctors at Speare Memorial Hospital for their care and comfort during this difficult time.

Per Donna’s request, there will be no funeral services. Private burial will occur in the spring.

Donna’s family asks that you make donations to Pemi-Baker Home Health, 101 Boulder Point Drive, Suite 3, Plymouth, NH 03264. Please include “In memory of Donna O’Haire” in the check memo line.
